Poor Quality Webquest

A Webquest on the Atom Bomb

Although I find the concept of this Webquest interesting, I would have liked it more if it was more involved. The general color scheme is not aesthetically enjoyable, in my opinion, which makes it more difficult for me to pay attention. The choice of pictures and the lack of pictures is a main reason that I chose this as a poor quality Webquest. The resource page is plentiful but including pictures or news reports to help the student come to a conclusion would have been more beneficial. The evaluation page is descriptive but I don't believe I would get the student responses that I would consider an advanced response based off of the resources available on the site. I would consider using this concept for a Webquest but instead of using the one available, I would create my own with a better layout, pictures and resources for my students.

  1. I liked the task for this webquest but I also did not like the color scheme. As for the photos that were shown although they pertained to the assignment, it would be better if the author showed before and after photos of the same city or place in that city. By showing what Hiroshima looked like before the atomic bomb, and Nagasaki after, although the images were good they would not have the same effect if they were of the same city or place.

  2. Compared to the wequests I've looked at this one is not bad. I do agree the color scheme could have been better. But, all but one of the links worked and the webquest broken up into the different sections so all the material wasn't presented at once. There also wasn't a teacher page but there was enough detail given that I think as a teacher I could still conduct students through it. Without the teach page though I don't know what grade, I can guess 10th and I don't know how much class time. It seems it should be done in one but I don't know if the students would be able to read all the material in 45 mins and do a 1/2 pg reflection. The task is appropriate but I would have to modify a few things to use it myself.

  3. The page was designed poorly, although some students may find it more appealing due to the design difference, but this blogger was not attracted to it. There needed to be a teacher page, but it did not derail the WebQuest that much. There should have been posted an appropriate grade level and tie frame for the teacher, but I guess this creator wanted teachers to critically think. One link did not work which will impact the WebQuest and the students learning experience.

  4. I find this subject very interesting so I feel the author could have gone a little further to make this webquest more interesting and engaging. Such an important topic that was documented so well couldve been presented better, including more graphic images and statistics to help paint the horrific image and aftermath.

  5. I found the ads pretty distracting---I would advise not to host a webquest with this site---it also gave me 2 different pop-up ads when I opened it. Not necessary for students to have to see/deal with these annoyances.
The subject matter is very interesting---but I agree with Alex---more could have been done to make this even more interesting. Alanna's point about the different cities is also an excellent one. Keri is right---the concept is good, but it need to be reworked and filled out.
